Dentons has announced the expansion of its Intellectual Property (IP) and Technology practice in Hong Kong with the addition of Loke-Khoon Tan, Dominic Edmondson, and Maria Joannides Smith to its partnership and leadership team. The powerhouse trio, who join from Baker McKenzie, bring a wealth of experience and industry insight, further strengthening Dentons’ position as the go-to firm for IP and Technology matters across the Asia-Pacific region and beyond.

Loke-Khoon Tan – Widely recognised in the region and globally for his extensive experience in Intellectual Property law, particularly in Hong Kong and Mainland China, Loke-Khoon focuses on the structuring and protection of IP rights, including trade marks, design patents, copyright, trade names, and software, as well as anti-counterfeiting strategies. His work increasingly spans emerging areas such as internet and social media, media and entertainment, artificial intelligence, and technology law. He is an award-winning IP lawyer and led the regional IP, Technology and Consumer Goods and Retail Industry practices at his prior firm for two decades.

Dominic Edmondson – Dominic primarily advises on complex global data privacy and data protection, artificial intelligence, information technology transactions, cybersecurity, e-commerce, and telecommunications matters. He also has broad experience in both contentious and non-contentious intellectual property matters across Greater China and Asia, spanning the technology, media and telecommunications, automotive, financial services, and healthcare sectors. Dominic is admitted to practise in both Hong Kong and England and Wales.

Maria Joannides Smith – Maria is widely recognised in the region and globally as a leading lawyer in her field. She advises on contentious and non-contentious matters, as well as on commercial and IP matters, with a particular focus on trade marks and copyright. Her practice encompasses global and regional IP portfolio management, brand protection and enforcement. She has extensive experience developing comprehensive regional and global protection and enforcement strategies, structuring IP rights, and guiding clients through regional brand selection and clearance processes before product launches or market entry.
