Australian lawyers are focusing hard on developing their soft skills during the coronavirus crisis, new data from legal CPD provider LawCPD reveals.

“Working Effectively with Email” is at the top of the list of the ten most popular courses, which goes on to feature five other courses that aim to improve lawyers’ soft skills.

Courses helping lawyers to improve their personal and professional wellbeing, cultivate greater Emotional Intelligence, and improve client management are becoming increasingly popular. Unsurprisingly, courses that seek to equip lawyers with tools to successfully manage remote work are also high on the list.

According to LawCPD director Sarah Mateljan, Australian lawyers are taking up online learning in larger numbers than ever before, and taking the opportunity to build their transferable skills.

“Soft skills have always been important for lawyers to develop. But now, when there has been such a rapid shift to remote work, this has shone a light on how invaluable soft skills like time management, communication, and conflict resolution can be to lawyers in their day-to-day practice.” Mateljan said.

But it’s not just soft skills that lawyers are focusing on. Legal innovation and technology have been a hot topic in the legal profession for a long time, and the current crisis has accelerated the rate of change. Many lawyers are taking the opportunity to learn about this exciting topic from world renowned author Mitch Kowalski, whose course came in at third most popular.

These are LawCPD’s top 10 most popular courses for 2020 in Australia:
